Investigative journalism is at risk today. Time and budget constraints, and often ideological impediments, are increasingly impeding the ability of news organizations and journalists to do the necessary deep-dive, original, investigative reporting upon which the strength of our Republic depends. As newspapers and old media are slowly dying and being crushed by the burden of outdated infrastructures and methods, traditional news organizations have increasingly begun to view investigative journalism as a luxury that they can no longer afford. This constitutes an unacceptable threat to our ability to effectively self-govern, and to maintaining an effective system of checks and balances on and within our government.
BNF is a critical part of the solution. It covers those stories that the mainstream media refuses to cover because of bias; fails to cover because of its incompetence; and/or cannot cover because of its dwindling resources. Its mission is, simply put, to uncover and report the truth; and, in so doing, to expose corruption and abuses of power. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
